How to bring all of an app's windows to the front on a Mac

Clicking one window brings only that window forward, leaving the app's others behind. Bring All to Front, the Dock click and the app switcher all fix it.

Guide · Updated 22 October 2026

Why does clicking a window not bring the others forward?

A click raises only the window you clicked. Windows of the same app keep their place in the stack. Switching to the app as a whole, rather than to one window, is what brings all of them up.

How do I bring all of an app's windows forward?

  • Choose Window, Bring All to Front in the app's menu bar.
  • Click the app's icon in the Dock.
  • Switch to it with ⌘ Tab.

Windows on other desktops, and minimized ones, stay where they are.

How do I see all of an app's windows at once?

Press ⌃ ↓ for App Exposé, which spreads out every window of the front app. Or right click its Dock icon and choose Show All Windows. See App Exposé.

How do I bring forward one app and hide the rest?

⌥ ⌘ click its Dock icon. It comes forward and every other app hides. Or press ⌥ ⌘ H from inside the app.

A window that opens behind others: window opens behind other windows. Too many to manage: too many windows open.

Checked on 22 October 2026 on a MacBook Air (M1) running macOS 27.0.1: Show All Windows was read from the Dock's own menu.
