niri for Mac: the scrolling layout, on macOS

niri is a scrollable tiling window manager for Linux. If you miss its columns on a Mac, here is how ClutterFreeMac maps to it, key by key.

Coming from · Updated 12 October 2026

niri is a scrollable tiling Wayland compositor for Linux. Windows are arranged in columns on a strip that scrolls sideways, each monitor has its own strip, and opening a window never resizes the others. niri runs on Linux only.

ClutterFreeMac brings that same model to macOS as a native app.

What is different on a Mac

  • Settings live in a window, not a config file. Every shortcut can be rebound there.
  • macOS Spaces stay in charge of workspaces. Each Space keeps its own strip.
  • Full screen apps work the Mac way, in their own Space.
