ClutterFreeMac vs BetterTouchTool for window management
BetterTouchTool customises gestures, keys and buttons, and can snap windows. ClutterFreeMac is only about windows, on a scrolling strip. How they fit together.
BetterTouchTool is a deep customisation app: assign actions to trackpad gestures, mouse buttons, keys and the Touch Bar. Among its many actions are window snapping and resizing.
How they differ
| BetterTouchTool | ClutterFreeMac | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Gestures, keys, buttons, automation and windows | Windows only |
| Window model | Snap the window you act on | Every window on a strip, automatically |
| Setup | Build your own triggers and actions | Ready on first launch |
Using them together
They combine well if BetterTouchTool does not also move windows. Turn off its window snapping, keep your custom gestures, and map spare gestures to ClutterFreeMac's shortcuts, such as ⌃ ⌥ ← and → to move along the strip.
Avoid giving both apps the same three or four finger swipe; ClutterFreeMac, Settings, Navigation, lets you pick three or four fingers for the strip.
Questions
Can BetterTouchTool and a window manager run together?
