ClutterFreeMac vs Loop

Loop snaps a window by holding a key and pointing in a direction on a radial menu. ClutterFreeMac lays every window on a strip that scrolls. How they compare.

Compare · Updated 13 October 2026

Loop is a free, open source Mac app for snapping windows. Hold its trigger key and move the pointer: a radial menu picks a half, a corner or the full screen from the direction you move. It also takes keyboard shortcuts.

ClutterFreeMac is a scrolling window manager. It does not snap a window into part of the screen; it gives every window a column on a strip and lets the strip run past the edges.

Who should pick which

Pick Loop if you want a quick, free way to put one window in a half or corner now and then, and you like gestures with the pointer.

Pick ClutterFreeMac if your problem is the number of windows: too many to snap, and the ones you are not looking at keep ending up underneath.

Questions

Is Loop a tiling window manager?

Not in the automatic sense. Loop snaps the window you point at into a part of the screen. A tiling or scrolling window manager arranges every window for you.

Can I use Loop and ClutterFreeMac together?

They would both try to move the same windows. If you want to keep one app outside the strip, set it to Always float in ClutterFreeMac, Settings, Apps, and place it however you like.
