ClutterFreeMac vs Swish

Swish snaps windows with trackpad swipes on their title bars. ClutterFreeMac lets you swipe along a strip of windows. Two ways to manage windows by trackpad.

Compare · Updated 13 October 2026

Swish is a Mac app for arranging windows with trackpad gestures. Swipe on a window's title bar and it snaps to a half, a quarter or full screen, closes, minimises or switches tabs, depending on the gesture.

ClutterFreeMac also lives on the trackpad, but the gesture moves you, not the window. Swipe sideways with three or four fingers and the strip of windows slides under your fingers, like switching Spaces.

Who should pick which

Pick Swish if you mostly want to throw the current window into half the screen with a flick, and you keep things simple.

Pick ClutterFreeMac if you want every window in a row you can swipe through, with nothing hiding underneath.

If three finger swipes switch full screen apps instead, ClutterFreeMac, Settings, Mac Setup, shows the one Trackpad setting to change. Or choose four fingers in Settings, Navigation.

Questions

What is the best trackpad window manager for Mac?

It depends on what you want a swipe to do. Swish snaps the window under the pointer. ClutterFreeMac slides a strip of windows under your fingers, so a swipe takes you to the next window.

Do I need a trackpad for ClutterFreeMac?

No. Every move works from the keyboard with ⌃ ⌥ and a key, and a mouse can use the strip dock at the bottom of the screen or the arrows at its edges.
