FancyZones on a Mac: the closest alternatives
FancyZones, from Windows PowerToys, snaps windows into zones you draw. What does the same on macOS, and a different approach for people with many windows.
FancyZones is part of Microsoft PowerToys for Windows. You draw zones on the screen, then hold ⇧ while dragging a window to drop it into one. PowerToys does not run on macOS.
Closest on a Mac
| If you liked | On a Mac |
|---|---|
| Drawing your own zones | BetterSnapTool's custom snap areas, or Moom's grid |
| Dragging into a zone | macOS Sequoia's edge tiling, or Rectangle |
| Saved zone layouts | Moom or Rectangle Pro |
Zones without drawing
Zones work well for a fixed set of windows. When more windows open than you have zones, they pile up again. ClutterFreeMac makes a zone for each window as it opens: a column on a strip, at the width you choose. See ClutterFreeMac vs BetterSnapTool.
