GlazeWM for Mac: an i3 style workflow on macOS
GlazeWM brings i3 style tiling to Windows. If you are moving to a Mac and want the same keyboard driven flow, here is how it maps to ClutterFreeMac.
GlazeWM is a tiling window manager for Windows, inspired by i3, configured with a text file. It runs on Windows only.
What carries over
| Idea in GlazeWM | In ClutterFreeMac |
|---|---|
| Focus a window in a direction | ⌃ ⌥ and an arrow, or H J K L |
| Move a window in a direction | ⌃ ⌥ ⇧ and an arrow |
| Resize the focused window | ⌃ ⌥ = and −, or cycle with R |
| Toggle floating | ⌃ ⌥ T |
| Workspaces | macOS Spaces, each with its own strip |
| Config file | Settings window, every shortcut rebindable |
What is different
GlazeWM splits the screen between windows, so each new one shrinks the rest. ClutterFreeMac scrolls: windows sit in columns on a strip, and new ones extend it. If you liked i3's tabbed and stacked containers, ClutterFreeMac has stacked columns (⌃ ⌥ ]) and tabbed columns (⌃ ⌥ ⇧ T).
Questions
Is GlazeWM available on Mac?
