How to keep a window on every desktop on a Mac

Make an app follow you to every Space with Assign To All Desktops. How to set it, which apps it suits, and why it applies to the app rather than one window.

Guide · Updated 13 October 2026

Right click the app in the Dock, choose Options, then All Desktops. Its windows now show on every desktop, so switching Spaces never leaves it behind.

Good apps for it

  • Music players and timers you want to glance at.
  • A chat app you answer all day.
  • A notes or to do app you add to from anywhere.

Things to know

  • It applies to every window of the app, not one window.
  • The option only appears with more than one desktop.
  • Picture in Picture videos already follow you to every desktop on their own.
  • Full screen windows are their own space; an app on All Desktops does not show inside them.

Or stay on one desktop

The reason to want a window everywhere is usually that you split work across desktops. With ClutterFreeMac you can keep it all on one: every window has a column on a scrolling strip, the chat or music app sits at one end of it (Settings, Apps, keep at the start or end), and it is always one swipe away.
