Too many browser windows on your Mac? Keep them in order
One window per project, five projects, and they all look the same. How to keep many Chrome or Safari windows apart and find the right one quickly.
Browser windows are the hardest to tell apart. They are the same shape, the same colour, and each holds a dozen tabs.
Inside the browser
- Use profiles or tab groups for separate projects.
- Name windows: Chrome lets you give a window a name from its menu, which shows in Mission Control.
- Close what you are done with. Most of us do not.
Outside the browser
Put each project's browser window next to that project's other windows, rather than all browsers in one heap. ClutterFreeMac keeps every window in a row in the order you put them, so the research window stays next to the document it is for.
The strip dock shows every window on the row by its app, in order, and the strip map at the top shows where you are in the row.
Questions
How do I keep track of many browser windows?
Name them, keep each one beside the work it belongs to, and keep their order fixed so you find them by place.
