Many chart windows on a Mac: a layout for traders
Charts, order windows, news and a watchlist all want to be visible. How to arrange many trading windows on a Mac so the right one is always a key away.
Trading desks are known for walls of screens because every window matters at once. On a Mac with one or two displays, the trick is order: knowing exactly where each window is.
Group by what you watch
- Now: the chart you are trading and the order window.
- Next: the watchlist and two or three other charts.
- Context: news, a broker's research, messages.
Stacks and fixed places
ClutterFreeMac lets several charts share one column as a stack, each a share of the height, with ⌃ ⌥ ]. Equal heights with ⌃ ⌥ 0. Jump straight to any column with ⌃ ⌥ and its number, so the order window can always be number one.
Pin an app to the first or last place on the strip in Settings, Apps, so it is always at the same end however many charts you open.
Two screens
Each display has its own row. Keep the charts on the big screen and news and the watchlist on the laptop, and send any window across with ⌃ ⌥ N.
