A Mac window setup for accountants and bookkeepers
Spreadsheets, the accounting app, bank statements and receipts. A layout for reconciling on a Mac that keeps the two things you match side by side.
Reconciling is matching one list against another. Put the statement and the ledger side by side, at half width each, and keep receipts and email beside them.
A layout to start from
| Column | Width | Holds |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Half | Bank statement or PDF |
| 2 | Half | Accounting app or ledger |
| 3 | Two thirds | Working spreadsheet |
| 4 | A third | Receipts and email |
Tips
- Freeze header rows so a half width spreadsheet stays readable.
- Open a second window of the same workbook to compare two sheets; see Excel side by side.
- Wide sheets: give that window full width for a moment (⌃ ⌥ F in ClutterFreeMac), then put it back.
At month end, save this as a layout and bring every window back in place in one click from the menu bar.
